A ductless mini-split heats and cools your home without ducts, using small indoor units that each control their own room or zone. Henco installs, repairs, and maintains ductless systems for homes and businesses in Vancouver, Ridgefield, and the rest of Clark County, and across the Portland metro area, Beaverton, and Salem.
Ductless is a strong fit for the Pacific Northwest. Winters are long, mild, and wet, summers bring more heat waves than they used to, and many older homes were never built with ductwork. A mini-split is a heat pump, so one system covers both seasons.
How a Mini-Split Works
A mini-split connects one outdoor unit to one or more indoor units through a small line set that passes through a 3-inch opening in the wall. The system moves heat instead of burning fuel: in winter it pulls heat from the outdoor air and brings it inside, and in summer it reverses to move heat out. Each indoor unit has its own controls, so you can keep the bedrooms cool and the living room warm at the same time.
Portland and Vancouver Homes That Benefit Most
- Older bungalows and craftsman homes in Portland and Vancouver with no existing ductwork
- Homes heated by electric baseboard or wall heaters
- Homes moving away from an aging oil furnace
- Additions, finished basements, garages, and bonus rooms
- Upstairs bedrooms that run too hot in summer
- Rooms the central system never quite reaches
Ductless Installation, From Sizing to Startup
Every install starts with a visit to your home. We measure the rooms, look at insulation and window exposure, and calculate how much heating and cooling each zone needs. From there we recommend a single-zone or multi-zone system and the right placement for each indoor unit, whether wall-mounted, ceiling cassette, or floor console.
Our technicians handle the full installation, including the outdoor unit pad or wall bracket, line set, condensate drain, and electrical connection. Since we also do electrical work, we can add the dedicated circuit the system needs or upgrade the panel if your home is short on capacity. Before we leave, we test the system in both heating and cooling modes and walk you through the controls.
Mini-Split Repair
We repair single-zone and multi-zone systems. Call for service if your mini-split:
- Blows warm air in cooling mode or cool air in heating mode
- Leaks water from the indoor unit
- Makes grinding, rattling, or loud clicking noises
- Shows an error code or flashing light
- Turns on and off frequently or will not start
Our technicians diagnose the cause first, then give you a flat-rate price before any repair begins. For ducted systems, see our heat pump repair and AC repair services.
